The lesson is the first lesson of the unit. The title is "eating"_ chī shíwù.
Student background
The students are in 9th grade to 12 grade. It is a mixed grade elective class. The language to conduct the lesson is Chinese, except for giving direction for activity and homework. The lesson delivery will use available technology in the classroom and computer lab in the media center. It also uses paper, pen student writing board and the white board in the classroom. The student level is beginner level. The class period is 85 minutes.
Objectives
Objective 1: Students are able to say food names on the 5 food groups.
Objective 2: Students are able to match the name to the food displace in stations.
Objective 3: Students are able to create 10 sentences using I eat/not eat. I like/not like.
Objective 4: Students are able to compare and correct classmate's reading and writing error(s).
Objective 5: Students are able to read their paragraph without any pausing.
Activities:
Opening Activities / Setting the Stage (5-7 minutes)
Teacher prints the QR codes and hangs them on the wall. Students are allowed to use either their phones and Ipad to find out food information from each QR code and they fill out the the survey form. (Table: row: what kind of street food, which country, tasted before or like to try it in the future)
There are students who may not know how to do this activity. The teacher will demonstrate how to use either a phone or a ipad which has a QR code reader to scan the code and to watch the video about the street food. Students can either do this alone or to work with one or two students.
The QR code activity is to allow students to discover information on their own and on their own pace. It also increase students' interest to find out what kind of information is hidden from these code.

Main Activities - Comprehensible Input (15 minutes)
The S + V + O structure will be introduced.
Subject is I (wǒ), you (Nǐ), he /she (tā)
Verb is eat (chī), like (xǐhuān)
Negation: no, not (bù)
Object: meat (ròu), vegetable (shūcài), fruit (shuǐguǒ), grain (gǔlèi), dairy product (nǎizhì pǐn) + beverage (yīnliào)

Before the teacher shows the food pyramid to the class, the pyramid template is given to each student to fill out their own food pyramid at home. After that the teacher asks 2-3 volunteer students to share their pyramid. The video of the vocabulary words will be shown to students to learn the names. After that students will write (copy) the Chinese pinyin words on their pyramids. The power point will be used in this lesson for the sentence structure. Students will use "I" statement to practice what I eat and I like to eat after the teacher introduce the verb "eat/not eat" and " like/not like to eat"

Students are practice with the teacher and then with their partners. Teacher will go through the ppt, vocabulary words, sentence form and finally question form with the whole class including how to pronounce those words with correct pinyin and tone mark.

Main Activities - Independent Practice (25 minutes)
There are 5 food group stations in the classroom with 5 "real" food displaced in 5 stations. Then students will visit the stations and create their simple food group pyramid. After that they put the information in a sentence form; such as S + V + O / S + NOT + V + O. Students will rearrange the information to put all the sentences into a paragraph form.
Their partner will check his/her work; and they will practice reading the paragraph.
